Honor your father and mother

Those who focus on our relationships with others begin with this command. Our parents are the first important people in our life and our survival depends on them for the first few years. Even if parents are imperfect (like all people), the commandment calls us to honor them and even gives us a promise if we keep it: we will have a long life.

As the years go by, we grow and live an independent life, but the commandment does not end: we must honor our parents all our lives. What we learn at home forms the foundation of our relationship with others and with God. If from childhood we give our parents due honor or respect, as we get older it will be easier for us to honor and respect others and God.
