PROMISES TO OBEDIENCE TO PARENTS

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
Honour thy father and mother; (which is the
first commandment with promise;) that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the
earth” (Ephesians 6:1-3).

“My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: for they shall be an
ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck” (Proverbs 1:8, 9).

“But if any widow have children or nephews [grandchildren], let them learn first to shew piety at
home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God” (1Timothy 5:4).

“Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord” (Colossians 3:20).

“My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: bind them
continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.
When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when
thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee” (Proverbs 6:20-22).

“Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of
Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded
you: therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not
want a man to stand before me for ever” (Jeremiah 35:18, 19).

PROMISES TO GOOD EDUCATION

“For I know him [Abraham], that he will command his children and his household after him, and they
shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon
Abraham that which he hath spoken of him” (Genesis 18:19).

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs
22:6).

“And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when
thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
And thou shalt write them
upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates: that your days may be multiplied, and the
days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days
of heaven upon the earth” (Deuteronomy 11:19-21).
