MATTHEW 13: 51-52
51 Their very son: have you ever understood these things? They replied: affirmative, Lord. 52 He himself said to them: “For this reason, every scholarly scribe within the kingdom of heaven is a kind of householder, WHO brings out new things and recent things from his treasure.”
REFLECTION:
This short parable is given by Jesus after asking his disciples: “Have you understood all these things? It refers to the seven parables given in Matthew 13: 1-50, where they answer Yes, Lord. And that’s when Jesus says he says to them that a learned scribe in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out new and old things. Who is the learned scribe now? Take out of his treasury refers to the eternal truths revealed from the Old Testament in relation to the New Testament Covenant, confirmed in Christ Jesus.
And although the disciples answered affirmatively, the evidence in the gospels shows that it took three and a half years of the teacher’s ministry for them to be based on the word of truth; tested in the end they left Jesus just one day before his death when they arrested him, they did not have enough courage to accompany him, but we see the apostles, in addition to Judas, who gave their lives to serve the Messiah, after suffering, death . , resurrection and ascension of Christ to heaven, receiving at Pentecost the filling of the Holy Spirit, which they needed to be true witnesses of Christ, faithful until death.
In the beginning and much of Jesus’ ministry, crowds sought him only for a miracle in their bodies, rather than for being the Son of God, the Savior of lost souls; few came to him and tried to reconcile themselves to God and serve him wholeheartedly. We have some examples of this in the miracle of the ten lepers (Luke 17: 11-19) and the multiplication of the loaves (John 6: 1-71). The kingdom of heaven would be like the mustard seed (Matthew 13: 31-32), small among all the seeds at first, but later it would be the great tree that would serve as a sanctuary for all who need eternal life.
Every person who has been called to teach God’s people the truths of the kingdom will be educated and will always praise God in the Lord Jesus Christ with the power of the Holy Spirit. Every Christian has a task, a task that we cannot lose sight of, and it is written in Matthew 28: 18-20 “And Jesus approached and spoke to them, saying: All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. teach them to keep all that I have commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, until the end of the world. Amen”.
