‘Shephelah’ is a Hebrew word used to describe the low hill country between the coastal plain and the central mountains of Palestine. It was a fertile region, suitable for growing fruit trees and raising sheep and cattle (Josh 10:40; Judg 1:9; 2 Chron 9:27; 26:10; Jer 17:26; 32:44). For details see PALESTINE, subheading ‘Shephelah’.
