Shinar was an ancient name for the land of Babylon. Its chief towns were Babel, Erech and Accad, and its most famous warrior was Nimrod (Gen 10:9-10; 11:1-9; 14:1; Isa 11:11; Dan 1:2). (For details see BABEL; BABYLON.)
