The Parable of the Mustard Seed

MATTHEW 13: 31-32; MARK 4: 30-32; LUKE 13: 18-19

13:31 And he told them another parable, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. 13:32 which is truly the least of all seeds; but when it has grown, it is the largest of vegetables and becomes a tree for the birds of the sky to come and make nests in its branches.

REFLECTION:

This parable is part of those mentioned by Jesus regarding the kingdom of God. The illustration of the story of a man who planted in his field a mustard seed, the smallest of all seeds, grew in such a way that it became a tree where the birds of the sky come and make nests. As expressed in Ezekiel 17:23 “I will plant it on the high mountains of Israel, and it will raise branches and bear fruit, and it will be a magnificent cedar; and every bird of every species will dwell under it; in the shadow of its branches they will dwell ”, and it has to do with the messianic fulfillment of the kingdom of God, manifested in Jesus, as Savior of the world; Just as he ruled when it came to the Jews in the first century, it was not in that way that they expected the Messiah to shine with splendor and color, the Roman Empire, this kingdom that Jesus spoke of, because they did not meet their expectations. it demands belief in him, as God anointed. From that moment this kingdom began, and after Jesus died, rose again and ascended to heaven, from a small group of men and women who believed in Jesus Christ, we now have access to the wonderful shadow of that tree. , as Psalm 91: 1 says “He who dwells in the shadow of the Most High will dwell under the shadow of the Almighty”, and the kingdom of God will continue to grow on earth until Jesus returns the second time to his holy people.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with you all.
