These are the 12 tribes of Israel
Jacob’s sons were important leaders and traditionally known as Shivtei Kah because they were the “founders of the tribes of God”. During the life of Reuben – the first son of Jacob, as they say, outlived everyone. But situating the sons of Jacob within the framework of the story is not easy.
However, they are usually set sometime before the eras of Judges and the Monarchy, beginning in the 12th and 12th centuries B.C. respectively. Regarding the scientific perspective, historian Michael Brenner notes that “the history of Israel up to the beginning of the first millennium before the Christian era is largely unknown to us.” However, with few exceptions11, there is general agreement on the location of the sons of Jacob and the conquest of Canaan in the 13th century.
